GRA hosts International Commercial Arbitration event in support of young lawyers and students.

As part of its commitment regarding the development of new generations of lawyers engaged in the practice of different areas of international law, GRA was pleased to host (on Saturday March 17, 2007) the first Latin American International Commercial Arbitration Premoot organized by a Mexican law firm. The event consisted on a series of practice rounds for the academic competition "Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot" same that will be held in Vienna, Austria from March 30 to April 5, 2007. The practice rounds had the participation of leading universities such as: Universidad Panamericana Campus Mexico City, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, and Escuela Superior de Economia y Negocios from El Salvador.

Distinguished lawyers and representatives of the Mexican arbitral community, such as the head of the arbitration division of the Mexican National Chamber of Commerce Association (CANACO) and the Secretary General of the Mexican Arbitration Center (CAM) attended our event.

Several partners at GRA (some of them active in academic events such as The Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Competition and the 2007 V.C. García Moreno Competition (International Criminal Court), while others are mediators certified by the Mexican Mediation Institute), participated as arbitrators during the premoot hosted by our firm.

Our associate, Edgar Martínez, will attend the "Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot" in Vienna acting as an arbitrator and coach for the team of Universidad Panamericana Campus Mexico City.  Another of our associates, Paulina Hernández, currently heads the administration of the 2007 V.C. García Moreno Competition (International Criminal Court).

- “We are certain that this event will set a precedent for law firms in Latin America to actively engage in academic events related to International Commercial Arbitration, supporting students which will eventually be part of our legal staff”- Ricardo Lan (partner at GRA).
