ENERGY - OIL, GAS AND ELECTRIC POWER
The Mexican energy industry currently
is controlled almost entirely by the government. All suppliers and contractors
must be registered and approved as government suppliers. Our lawyers,
therefore, represent these suppliers and contractors -- many of which
are foreign companies (often with Mexican subsidiaries) -- in their dealings
with the government.
We advise and represent our clients in
bids to the government, determine how foreign investment laws apply to
them and help them contend with the tax consequences of their actions.
There has been a growing liberalization
and deregulation of the energy industry, especially electric power generation.
Goodrich, Riquelme will continue to advise its many energy clients as
new opportunities open up for investment.
